Member Spotlight

Meet Stephanie Chartier

1) Introduce yourself to us, (i.e., how long have you been quilting, do you have a day job, do you enjoy other hobbies)

My name is Stephanie, I've been quilting for a little over 3 years. I got started because I wanted to make a onesie quilt for my daughter (which I still need to finish). I work for the Army Air Force Exchange Service as a Ecom Marketing Coordinator with a bunch of great buyers. I've worked with AAFES for 12 years. Besides quilting I cross stitch and crochet.

2) How long have you been a member of DMQG, what/who inspired you join our group, are you a member of another guild as well?

I joined DMQG Dec 2016, I was inspired to join after meeting some ladies at Stitchfest last year. I'm also a member of Cedar Hill guild.

3) Do you do social media? if so do you have an instagram handle, or would you welcome other members to follow you on Facebook?

My IG name is sweetright

4) Tell us about your favorite quilt/sewing project.

Each time I make something it becomes my favorite lol

5) What inspires you to create?

Beautiful colors, geometric patterns and seeing what everyone else makes.

6) Do you enter quilt shows? Have you received and ribbons? Tell us about them.

I haven't yet!

7) Have you made friendships through DMQG. Tell us who they are, we would love to know.

Yes! So many! I don't want anyone to feel left out by naming names ;)

8) When you complete your quilts what becomes of them? Give away? Keep? Sell? Show?

I get a lot of pleasure out of giving them away as gifts so most of them have found new homes.

9) In what room of the house do you sew? Tell us about your sewing/quilting/crafting space.

I have a dedicated sewing room, but I mainly sew in my bedroom so I can watch tv.
10) Please share photo’s of you and some of your favorite projects, friends, family or pets.

1)  Introduce yourself to us, (i.e., how long have you been quilting, do you have a day job, do you enjoy other hobbies)

I am Joanne Kamper, I have been married to my husband Tom for almost 43 years, I have 1 son Thomas, 1 daughter & Son In law Anne & Aaron. I worked for Garland ISD the last 19 years, I changed jobs 2yrs ago and moved to Data Clerk in an Elementary School, there is never a dull moment with the younger children and I love it.
I have been quilting for 18 years, I started quilting when Anne went off to college, back then I would only do Americana, then my box was opened and I cannot get back in.  I also enjoy needlepoint it is easier to carry than a quilt.

Officer Spotlight

Meet Cathy Fields
VP of Activities

1)  Introduce yourself to us, (i.e., how long have you been quilting, do you have a day job, do you enjoy other hobbies)

Hello, I’m Cathy Fields.  I have lived in Rowlett for more than 30 years.  My family is: Husband, Sam; Three daughters, Chelsey, Tory and Darby.  There is a picture of us in this profile.  By Public School calendar, I work at Rowlett High School as the data clerk.  I take care of enrollments, records upkeep and general student data-ey stuff.  I basically support the entire staff with various endeavors. I get six weeks off in the summer so that’s my most productive time creatively.  I’d sure like to have more (hint hint retirement).
I decorate my house in antiques and I just bought a Cricut Explore Air 2 machine so I’ve been having fun with that.

2)  How long have you been a member of DMQG, what/who inspired you join our group, are you a member of another guild as well?

July of 2014 is when I started attending full time.  I’d visited a couple of times the previous year.  I wanted a group that my daughter would attend as well and the group welcomed both of us.  Bettepat couldn’t believe we were mother/daughter.  I belong to a small quilt group called Karaoke Quilters – from the Rowlett Quilt Guild. Crazy ladies!!

3) What is your current board position?  What other roles have you had with DMQG?

I am the Vice President of Activities for DMQG

4)  Do you do social media?  if so do you have an instagram handle, or would you welcome other members to follow you on Facebook?

Yes I do.  I don’t post a ton of things.  When something strikes me funny, quirky or sentimental, I post it.   My Instagram is:  @cthfields

5) Tell us about your favorite quilt/sewing project.

Chelsey and I made a pineapple block king size quilt for her best friend as a wedding gift.  It was amazing working in an assembly line chain piecing mess!

6) What inspires you to create?

I always have a million projects in my head I want to make so that keeps me motivated.

7) Are you a Fan girl/boy (i.e., is there a quilty person you love and enjoy stalking their work)?  Tell us about them.

I like Robert Kaufmann and Alexander Henry fabrics.  I love the vintage vibe and wish I could design like them….hmmm maybe I’ll have to get Darby to design for me!!

8) Do you enter quilt shows?  Have you received and ribbons?  Tell us about them.

I have entered one quilt show (Mesquite).  I did not receive a ribbon, but I’m going to keep trying.

9) Have you made friendships through DMQG.  Tell us who they are, we would love to know.

Since I became a board member I’ve gotten to know more and more about our members.  I enjoy the quiet moments of Handsew Monday with Doris, Sam, Kate, Laurie, Kate, Chelsey; then the flurry of activity that comes with having a board position keeps me on my toes...they’re wild and crazy!!

10) When you complete your quilts what becomes of them?  Give away? Keep? Sell? Show?

I would say two-thirds are gifts and the other third is keep.  I always want to keep them all.

11) In what room of the house do you sew? Tell us about your sewing/quilting/crafting space.

My crafting space is amazing.  Two large Ikea Lack bookshelves keep my fabric and other craft supplies, a 1950’s drafting table serves as my cutting table and I made the table for my sewing machine one summer.  Ikea and Container Store wire shelving are the bomb

12) What is your current fabric obsession (color, line, style, etc.)?

I mix and match fabric lines to create the look I want.  I’m not attached to one in particular.

13) Favorite quilting blogs?

I don’t read as many blogs as I used to, I keep up thru Instagram and then visit the designer’s blog if I want more information

14) Why modern quilting? As a quilt artist, what more would you like the Dallas Modern Quilt Guild to do to encourage/inspire/educate quilters?

I feel modern quilting lends to thinking outside a particular idea.  I’m quite OCD about things lining up, being straight, matching top to bottom and the MQG has shown me that you don’t have to be symmetrical with your projects.

15) Please share photo’s of you and some of your favorite projects, friends, family or pets.
